Midweek Run section

May 21st. Midweek

We’ll await the 10.30 train from Glasgow and the 10.33 arrival from Stranraer before heading south via Glenwhilly and New Luce to Glenwhan Gardens (glenwhangardens.co.uk).

This is a new route for our section, timed to see the new broods of peacock and moorhen chicks and ducklings at the Gardens, as well as the spring blooms.

Take extra care if crossing the tracks at Barrhill as the northbound and southbound trains arrive within minutes of one another. Return trains to Glasgow are at 15.11 (ahead of the group return) and 20.19.

Note there is a charge to get into Glenwhan (well worth it). Picnics aren’t allowed on the grounds, but there’s a decent tea-room with a terrace.
